So why is it so hard to find motivation and why do you keep making excuses?

We all know that living a happier, longer life is about taking care of our bodies and minds, so why not just do what we know is best? You can sabotage your efforts without even realizing it. Here’s how to find out if you are.

Why do we self-sabotage?

Many people believe that they eventually destroy their ability to achieve their goals because their mindset becomes their greatest enemy and that thoughts of low self-esteem can severely affect their success.

Do any of these phrases sound familiar to you?

  • You will stay on track for some time but over time you will return to your old, unhealthy lifestyle.
  • You know what to do but you don’t seem to be making any progress.
  • You’ve been working out and eating right the past few days, so indulge yourself in snacks for the rest of the week.

If you answered yes to one or more of these, you are probably sabotaging your own attempts at health.

How do you overcome self-sabotage?

Success in losing weight rarely depends on eating right and exercising. It also depends on your mind, habits and Psychological health. Exercise Won’t Fit You emotional eating. Restrictive diets will not change your lack of motivation.

We often get derailed due to an internal conflict with our desire to do better and the material motivation to do so, resulting in inconsistency and therefore progress.

3 ways to stop self-sabotage

When we write down our thoughts, fears, and anxieties, they somehow seem smaller than when they were in our heads. So make a list of four or five reasons why you think your life would be worse than it is now if you achieved your goals.

“I had to reset my focus before I turned 40 and have been doing so since mid-2020,” she says.

“My primary advice for self-sabotage is to realize what’s going on and why I’m doing it.

“If I’m in a negative state of mind — I try to capture that negative self-talk in the moment and paraphrase and rephrase it into something positive or go for a run or exercise.”

Lauren also tries to have a pile of healthy food in her house to keep her from making poor food choices.

“If I’m nervous and want chips – I’ll have some rice cakes or make some pappadum for a crunch,” recognize.

“If I slip, that’s fine. It doesn’t mean that today or the rest of the week is a waste. Today is just my first chance to start over.”

“If I’m hungry and find myself looking in the fridge – I’ll ask myself is there a chance I’m thirsty – I drink a big glass of water and then see how I feel.

“Remember. Set small goals. Get them focused and consider changing habits slowly. I promise it will lead to bigger changes.”

Hana, a mother of five, has been losing weight for two years now.

She says she keeps herself motivated by having small goals, scope and non-scale, as well as lots of support around her.

“Look at the non-standard victories you can achieve with a healthy active lifestyle. Focus on that,” she says.
